The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.

Proverbs 21:5

The Proverbs are full of wisdom sayings, and this one seems to fit into the category of common sense as well. The Oxford Language Dictionary defines diligent as "having or showing care and conscientiousness in one's work or duties". The discipleship of our children is one of our greatest duties. The path each family takes in their children's discipleship is their own; but it is wise to be prayerful, diligent and to put effort into the thought behind whatever path you choose.

My husband and I have made more T Charts or pro/con list than I can count. Moving? Big purchase? Homeschooling? I find writing out both the benefits and the cost helps me to step back from my initial emotional reaction and consider the big picture.

All things (even good things) have a cost. We are finite and cannot do it all, as much as I might wish to! Take a moment to count the cost before you begin your journey.

Pros and Cons of Choosing to Homeschool

1. What is the cost to you and your family by making the choice to homeschool? (Spititual, Emotional, Financial, Relational, Time, Professional)

2. What is the cost to you and your family of choosing traditional school? (Spititual, Emotional, Financial, Relational, Time, Professional)

3. What is there to be gained by choosing to homeschool?(Spititual, Emotional, Financial, Relational, Time, Professional)

4. What is there to be gained by sending your children to a traditional school? (Spititual, Emotional, Financial, Relational, Time, Professional)

As you look at your list, not each thought will have the same weight in your decision making. This is a decision you get to make for your family. Lift up your thoughts, worries and concerns to the Lord, and ask him for guidance.

If God is calling you to keep or bring your children home, He will equip you for what He has called you to do. In the next step are questions to help you form a vision for your homeschooling family.
