Because time is finite and we can’t do it all, this next section has you rate ideas in order of importance to you. These are all good things. The hope is to be aware of what you value so you can spend your time matching your values. Not everything can be the most important thing. This step can be one of the most challenging because if you're like me, you want to do it all!

Rate your value in different ways of learning from highest to lowest (1-7):

  • Through experience

  • Through reading

  • Through discussion

  • Through lecture

  • Through self-discovery

  • Through writing

  • Through technology

Rate these actives in order of importance for your child’s time, highest to lowest (1-11):

  • Time outside exploring nature

  • Time playing with other children

  • Time reading/ being read to

  • Free play

  • Organized sports or activities

  • Arts and crafts

  • Music

  • Time relaxing through technology

  • Time spent in Bible Study and devotions

  • Playing Games

  • Time spent pursuing interest

These next ideas are not necessarily in dichotomy, but we tend to have a proclivity towards one or the other.

  • Which do you value more, information or passion? Skill or curiosity? Joy or endurance?

Now that you've prioritized some learning modes, keep these in mind when you get to Step 6 as you consider different educational philosophies, as these philosophies focus on some of these aspects over others. On the next step, questions will begin to focus in on more the hopes and expectations of day to day life as a homeschooling family.
